Briefly describe Monogamy, Polygyny, Polyandry, and Group Marriage. Choose two of the above and explain the advantages and disadvantages of each.
Monogamy is marriage with only one person at a time. Polygyny is the practice or condition of having more than one wife at one time. Polyandry is the practice or condition of having more than one husband at one time. Group Marriage is a form of polyamory a marriage-like arrangement between more than two people. Usually consisting of three to seven adults, all partners live together, share finances, children, and household responsibilities.
A few advantages of polygyny are in most cultures, women contribute significantly to the wealth of the household and can thus materially benefit from the labour of an additional spouse. co-wives can usually rely upon each other to perform the most strenuous work of the household. polygyny also supports the once common expectation that women will remain sexually abstinent for two or more years beginning in the last months of pregnancy. This practice fosters adequate birth spacing for the mother to recover from the physiological and emotional stresses associated with pregnancy, lactation, and the care of a young child. Some disadvantages of Polygyny are families can be fraught with bickering and sexual jealousy. In order to dampen strife, many groups accord seniority to one wife, usually the first.
Some advantages of monogamy are only one spouse with less bickering between family members, Societal approval, and religious approval. Spousal relations improve because men and women are more dedicated to each other instead of merely entering an economic reproductive relationship. Society becomes more productive because men work more when they are married. Child marriages disappear and the age gap between husbands and wives narrows. There is reduced inequality between men and women and spousal abuse declines.
