In your own words, define culture. How would you define your culture? How would you feel if you were displaced from your culture at this time in your life?
I believe that culture is a group of people that act and think similarly in a certain setting. I would define my culture as a rural man that has grown up in a ranching community. The culture that I grew up on has a great work ethic and would do anything to help a neighbor or friend. In this area you learn young that if you help a friend they will be there for you when you need their help, and you learn the acceptable behaviors and actions that are thought appropriate in that area. For example in the panhandle of Nebraska we wouldn’t find it acceptable to burn down buildings or destroy private or government property in protest. We stand up for what we believe is right but we do it in a much more acceptable way. If we believe in it we will stand up for it and won't back down until the issue is resolved whereas in Ferguson, Missouri they are rioting, looting and burning anything that opposes what the rioting groups. I believe that this is just a difference in the way we were raised and the mentality behind the group thinking.
Right now if I was pulled completely away from my culture I would be lost and angry. I say this because I was raised a certain way and then someone is going to come in and say I can’t do what I was taught or what I was doing was wrong. It is all a matter of perspective I believe. This is how we all get our different beliefs is through our culture because it teaches us how we should act as I stated earlier. Without our culture we wouldn’t know right from wrong and we would be in an anarchic state.
